How a felt book adapts to baby’s rhythm and mood
A baby's mood and energy levels vary significantly from one moment of the day to the next, and from day to day depending on the quality of their sleep, their general state of health, or simply recent events in their environment. This natural variability directly influences how they approach each of their activities, including playtime with a book.
Many games or structured activities, with a precise sequence to follow, do not adapt well to this natural variability. An activity designed to last fifteen minutes may seem too long on a day when a baby is tired, or conversely, too short on a day when they are overflowing with energy and a desire to explore more.
The felt book, precisely because it imposes no duration or fixed sequence, adapts naturally to this variability. One day, a baby may linger for several long minutes on a single page, fascinated by its texture; another day, they may move quickly from one page to another, without this difference in pace ever posing a problem.
This intrinsic flexibility also avoids any frustration linked to unrealistic expectations on the part of parents. Not expecting a precise sequence or a fixed duration allows one to calmly welcome each playtime as it comes, without anxious comparisons to the previous session or to what another child of the same age is doing.
This lack of time constraints also allows the baby to develop their own internal regulation, gradually learning to identify for themselves when they have explored an activity enough to move on to something else, rather than following a schedule imposed from the outside by an adult or by the rules of a structured game.
Parents can support this flexibility by simply observing the signals sent by the baby, rather than trying to artificially prolong a playtime that seems to be naturally coming to an end, or conversely, interrupting it prematurely while the baby is still showing active interest in their book.
It is this ability to silently adjust to each baby's mood and unique rhythm, day after day, that truly distinguishes the felt book from a more rigid activity, offering every child a play space that is truly respectful of their internal state at the time.
