Why a felt book never really gets damaged

Every parent knows that slightly sad moment when a toy or a book, once their child’s favorite, ends up relegated to the back of a cupboard, damaged to the point where it is no longer appealing to handle. With a paper book, this moment often arrives much sooner than one would have liked, sometimes in just a few weeks.

Quality felt, dyed with pigments suitable for textiles, retains its vibrancy after numerous washes, whereas a paper book sees its colors fade quickly, especially if it is regularly exposed to light or handled with hands that are sometimes greasy or damp.

This robustness does not mean that the book remains static and identical throughout its lifespan. Over time, the felt develops a slight patina, becoming even softer under the fingers, almost like a security blanket that improves with use rather than degrading, keeping the gentle traces of countless shared moments of play.

This longevity also has a significant economic and ecological dimension. A felt book that lasts for several years, or even through several children in the same family, represents a one-time purchase where several paper books would have had to be bought successively, reducing both the overall expense for families and the amount of waste generated.

It is this ability to stand the test of time without ever really wearing out that fundamentally distinguishes the felt book from objects designed for short-term use. It is not just another book destined to disappear after a few weeks, but a true companion for growth, designed to remain faithful to its purpose long after a baby’s first discoveries.
